Lots going on.5 days ago I did my first cuttings on the regenerated green onions, here is 5 days later.WOW.Thats a flaming success!
Got 4 more varieties of romaine and Kale assortment today. As they grow will need space, think the basil and dill I will move into tight clumps.Nice thing with aquaponics,no transplant shock at all when moved.
Lettuce loves the cold aquaponic water, this is bed 3 after a week. The sage also perking up.
I got some more romaine lettuce and kale. They were in a single container so had to break up roots and trim plants to transplant. They should be jammin' in a week.
Romaine bed 1
Romaine small guys bed 2,small roots so they really got a haircut
No.But I have tomatoes planted for later....and Rosemary has enough to use on some Lamb Chops we bought, weve never made them before.Already the lettuce is growing fast enough to meet our needs. As it grows more we will eat more salads.

Looks like cabbage loopers little green green caterpillars on some fruit tree's.Sprayed em all with 2 TBS neem oil and 2 TBS castile soap in a gallon of water, sprayed the trees and just about all else in the backyard garden plants.NOT the containers, they are OK for now, used sevin powder on them, had pillbugs, yikes!!
June 5,2 more salads plus extras.Really need to keep them cut back so as not to bolt.
I put a teaspoon around container plants and a TBS into the water of balanced 'miracle grow' about 3 weeks ago, will add teaspoon more to water I reckon soon.Started weaving toms into the fence too, really getting the growth now and most have flowers.
Bought a nice red small roses on a 3 foot tree with about a 1.5 inch trunk,27.99.Will leave in container for now while I decide where to plant.

Even with very high temps water stays cool.Lettuce likes that,so do basil, green onions and especially the lettuces. Not using fan, goal is to not use anything I can avoid, want it to deal with nature as much as its presented.

Daily harvest for salads is several types of Romaine Lettuce and Green Onions.Cut em off early AM while crisp as they can get, soak to clean 45-60 minutes in an ice bath, rinse, then a whirl in the salad spinner. They will keep over a week in the spinner in the refer, but I have this I need to eat daily. One thing Ive been making is tuna salad wrapped in lettuce leaves, yumm!

Decided to flood the beds once a week. They are smelling like ammonia. After flooding the ammonia is pushed into water where its converted to nitrite then nitrate. This happens fast, you can see the plants getting greener while flooded.
This time I plugged the drains, let pump fill beds.Waited three hours and drained. This is knocking the tar out of the gnats, the tiny eggs drown,as do the nymphs that cant fly much.
I did a fill and drain first, and got 16 slugs and 2 pill bugs total.I keep after them, usually dont get any longer than 3/4 max before i can grab em.Fish eat em,good fish!
After the fill Im pretty sure I drowned a bunch of slugs, pulled out a couple dead ones. Soooo.....every Wednesday Im going to flood the beds.
