I have to confess to having never understood these fool things. Can't open them, don't want to waste time fiddling with them and I curse the fool who devised them. That said, a friend sent me some old photos and things on a zip disaster and i have no earthly idea what to do with it. I have tried finding a tutorial but I guess I am too old or dumb to make sense of it. I even lowered myself and tried to open it on a Winblows computer. same complete disaster. Any clues would be appreciated, but I have little hope of ever seeing this material as it has been sent.

If its definitely zip you just,as you know, need a linux zip program.I'll find what Im using, you just go get the program from in my case ubuntu software center. What version are you? BTW,hada kid do that, send tiffs, etc.Just told Mrs to tell him they dont work,he finally figured out jpeg or he gets ignored.I wasnt going to jump thru hoops so he could play with esoteric file managers.

BTW,if we cant get them to open,if you dont mind me seeing them I will give you my email, you can email to me,I can send send back in emails,OPENED and ready to see.
But it should be as simple as finding a zip unpacker for your linux version, download that and when you click on the file he sent they just pop open. The gold standard is 7zip and we linux use the same one as windows,at least thats my understanding, try this first...
Try this link...it lists various versions on linux.....on ubuntu i go to terminal and use the sudo apt-get version of command.
Really,if its still giving you problems after we find your version just email to me,mine should open them automatically and I can send you them back in emails opened. From my linux or windows machine. Did you say you tried on windows and they wouldnt open, did it take you to a thing with a bunch of files that asked you to extract them, thats how you manually get them to open, click on each file and hit extract.
Give a thousand monkeys a thousand typewriters and eventually...I got it, Purely by accident I am sure. Thanks for the offer Spuds. I really appreciate it. Looked at a couple more sites last night regarding zippidy doo dah files and it still came through as gibberish to me. So....I kept playing with categories and finally got it open, unzipped, re-wrapped or whatever. Sent a note to all I know telling them NEVER to send me one of those things again. Ever.
