In the change over of management - not really a change over, but reshuffling - things got a LOT worse. We were basically told today that if we aren't a vet we will not be considered for any other job. Hi, I'm here to tell you that it doesn't matter how hard you work, or you skill level I will only promote you if no vet wants the job. My current employees are the last people I respect and will take a new person and get you to train them, but you just aren't good enough.
Add to that, I found out that I can cut back my hours BUT it messes up my retirement. If I retire early as a full time person. I'll lose 15% of my retirement. If I retire later, as a part timer I'll lose 18%. So I will need to stay full time for the next 2 years.
I have always had a problem with 'Veterans preference" in the workplace. I am one but have never used it to advantage. That just seems sleazy to me. Yeah, some of us went, some of us actually fought, but that was then and this is now. Quit resting on your behind and pull your own weight. It is nothing special and the sooner the weenies realize that the better the country will be. Oh wait=this is Amerika now. You better buy a lotto ticket, Bonnie. Better chance of equality that way.
I don't have a problem with giving a vet a few extra points to help them get on the "list" - sometimes our vets can't get the experience or education because of their service - so I'm okay with that. But once the list comes out, we should all be one equal footing. New store director is just stupid, and doesn't want to take responsibility for hiring - he also can't - he's made enough mistakes in the past that I think this is the only way he can get around the favors and promises.
