I finally have some real tomatoes that taste right and are juicy to boot. They are late I suppose but then I got a late start on them. I have two half barrels of them and they are producing well-big old German variety. Figure on canning some for over the winter. Went down to the Gulf a few days ago and just schmoozed around for a couple of days. Nothing much else going on right now.
I have a raccoon that comes by and waits for me to take scraps out to the compost pile, such as it is right now. I lead her a fair way off and leave a bit of goody for her. So far she has accepted the situation. They can be destructive, but of course not from their point of view!
I sense a bit of fall in the air now. Still hot during the day but the bugs have that end of season linger in their song and the air feels different somehow. The heat lightning has been wonderful And I find myself settling in more with each passing day. The tomato crop is large for the size of it, and the yellow tomato is coming on strong now. nice to have these for the first time in many years. Butter beans, fried fish and tomato slices last night. Pretty darned good...
