Let me put it this way.
Christmas has to be among my least favorite holiday.I dont like the commercialism at all,the forcing you to shop. Now I understand for the little kiddies its important, but thats about as far as my tolerance goes.
People love you by the gifts you give em,man that rubs me wrong to judged by that yardstick.
Bah humbug, but thats how it makes me feel anymore.Too much traffic, too many stressed out shoppers, over loaded clerks trying their best in a madhouse of many inconsiderate and rude people.
The spirit is lacking, and Jesus is lost in the shuffle.Dont like that.
Sooooo....I should work next Christmas instead of NY,woulda messed up the schedule but so be it,let the people with kids have at it,someone who gets more from it, could use it would be much better.
Aw shoot, Spuds. I am old and probably considered a grump by many but there is nothing wrong with a little Christmas magic. I miss that, and yes it is primarily for the kids, but then, I actually was one of those once. I have a big pot of barbeque beef and a nice bowl of coleslaw and a couple dozen toasted yeast rolls going on today. C'mon up, eat, and watch A Christmas Story. Put you in a good mood, I guar-an-tee! Merry Christmas, Spuds...
I like Christmas, although Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Around here, people are usually happy, or at least pleasant. Yesterday, our truck driver came to the store dressed as santa. I'm not into all of that stuff, but I enjoy the fun of the season. I feel bad for people who are grumpy this time of year, gift giving is supposed to be fun, and if it's not, and you are not blessed, then either you are doing it wrong, and/or you should quit.
Gotta get the rest of the food out of the freezer - a fish feast is on our menu today. Have a good one everyone!
Turkey and stuffing is in the oven. I was too beat last night to bake pie. I baked an apple with canned filling and crust for pumpkin this AM. I was up at 3. Got to make the pumpkin filling and beat up the dream whip. Itis no bake filling. I used bread flour and got the crust a bit short. Ican no tpeel S taters as hands to sore so will bake and I can peel regular tatoes. And we will have gravy. Turkey was thawed good so I could stuff it. Yes, my hands are better. I can not lift. But I managedthe turkey of 18# and dresssing in it. I asked to be woken at 3 and I was. I had stuff set out ready. Son will do greenbeans. There will be plenty of food. Crandberries are done. I can not eat but son sure wants.
I did not go shopping for gifts. I gave oldest son a check when I was there. I mailed check to Daughter. And put money in the cards for son and DIL here. I did not put up the tree.
Diningroom is ready for me to start on a quilt. We eat in the kitchen. That is where the table is. Everything done but put tators on. I guess I will wash and cut up and boil. Peeling and all.
However, while the early start to shopping season has missed expectations, driven primarily by an unprecedented weakness in traditional bricks and mortar outlets, there was some hope that the last stretch into Christmas and the New Year would provide a much needed, last minute bump. Those hopes were dashed last night when Shopptertrack reported that retail traffic plummeted by an unprecedented 21% last week, and in-store sales decreased 3.1% from the year before, dashing retailers' hopes that the final stretch before Christmas would offset soft sales numbers earlier in the holiday shopping season.
Low sales...hmmm...Oclueless will probably say its a racist thing or something... I had a hunch this was going to be the result and am glad to see the fairy tale economy getting a jolt of reality. Long overdue.
I am not surprised. I was in Walmart in Vernal Thursday. Saw one woman filling a cart with junk. Had stack if stuff marked clearance piled high. No material marked down. The other Walmart in the big had Xmas material all marked down. I did not care for any of it when they got it in and marked down still did not. Material is very high now. I tried to buy a Xmas material in Nov at Cubbs and they were out and only had a snow man one. I did not want that one. I bought material to last me at Cubbs, About same price as Walmart. One piece I did give more. For quilt making.
This Med Ins is eating us up. I end up with $232 and does not pay all the bills and have copays. And heating bills. Water bills terrible here in summer too. No interest on savings.
And I am in good financial shape compared to lots of families.
I did a big dinner so son could take some home. Lots listed not doing a big dinner. Postage too high to mail cards. And will come up to .49 this month. I can remember letter 3 cents and cards with no letter 1 1/2 cents, And I can remember min wage at 50 cents an hour. Stuff is out of balance some where.
