Tuesday my next door neighbors move. The Mom,98 or so,goes into the assisted living section, daughter goes into the independent living.
They each get their own room. Its directly across the street from the Major Medical Center. So if E goes into hosp,K can just walk across street to see her.
Works for them.
If im not mistaken they also have a reverse mortgage on home. After 364 days out of home the lender on that takes possession,so lender did OK,dont know what the loan amt was though, before real estate crash.
Soooo....2 more neighbors gone,Pat and Mike left 2 weeks ago, leaving the 2 grammas up here.
Huge change in the 'hood, and I dont like it.I like stability, but go figure, life changes and moves on.
This neighborhood has changed too. Indepentent living here, and 2 assisted living and nursing home and hospital all same outfit. Grouped fairly close. Few blocks anyway.
OLder ones on this road have gone or few moved. One acrossed the road from me was here when I moved here. Her husband went a few years back. Daughter with her and she is 82 and really down hill. I told I hope she got to feeling etter and she said no chance. South of me he moved in after were here. Been there quite awhile. He is not well. First wife split and he is remarried and I have not met her. So the 3 of us. Across they sold all the land but for their house a couple lots. So they had money . GUy south has his 10 acres he can sell and he gets small SS. It has changed to developement here.
Here have to be low income to get in to he Senior apts. They take 30% of your income. You have to be welfare level it seems. One assisted living is a cheap one and the other fancier full price only. Nursing home is a nursing home. Apts do their own cooking and so on. I was in one apt and they say all the same. They come with stove and fridge on the small side and drapes.
Senior Apts where son is about the same deal. Good deal if broke or low income. Income level there is different on them. They have the asssisted living and nursing home and hosptail. Not together that I can tell. You had better have all your ducks in a row before you go to any of it.
I do know those reverse mortgages do not give you the going price on your home. They allow for interest and such. I know you must live in it and I have no idea if they give any after you move out. You can pay it off and keep the house I think. Payments acording to age. SS does not pay for things like assisted living or nursing home. So many days for out of the hospital so there is bit for short time. My niece went to assisted living and SS did not pay. Nursing home would have she said but she did not want in one.
Yep, that sounds about right. They were calling a lot here for awhile and pushing reverse mortgages, Piece in the paper one time I saw. You get to keep the house as long as you stay in it.
It kind of sounds like the daughter not in on it moving out as they would keep paying her as long as living there. Money can end if paid out the amount set up for but you can stay there. Least that was what it said.
They sell their house and get in to senior housing I think by putting money in to annuity and that they can not cash and get money each month. If they stay below the income top level. I know some sold here and move in the senior apts. I know one lady that was over the limit and they told her they could show how to fudge her income. She was not into fudging. Spread the money out for life time. They can buy a cemetary plot and prepay funeral and such and that does not count as net worth. They can own pickup and camper on it and okay. They can own a vehicle. Here they have parking for their vehicles. HUD and some have different rules. I have heard the ladies there talk. Oce they are off HUD they can set their own rules about I guess. One her has waiting list I heard. And one guy (drunk) told me he was going to get one apt and get a roommate to pay half. I told Art that one and he said no way.
Here they have a livingroom and the back end is the kitchen across it. A bedroom and bath and big storage closet. They inspect the apts every 3 or 4 months. If not able to wash down the cupboards and all that. They have people they can pay to do it. They can not store up food. They have there own bus that takes them place.
They are decent place to live. I was never in to any f the assisted living rooms. I just made the deliveries to the diningroom there both places. Nursing home I went to the rooms there. Apts to the rec-room. Seperate building with kitchen and dinning room and rec-room I guess they called it.
I have not been in the ones up where son is but saw pictures. DIL has been in one and was not impressed. Of course not fancy any of that type HUD stuff.
