what the right one is doing. So typical of our postal service/government-whatever they are. The little P.O. here is on the list to be shut down. Kinda strange that we even have a P.O. as RFD also runs here. So, Friday they decided to tear out the perfectly fine sidewalk/entry way and form and pour a new one. No, not for handicapped, just a rehab of the existing one. Great mess, tore up part of the parking area, etc...There was not a darned thing wrong with what was there before-and it was less than 10 years old! What the...? Some real hoopy thinking by the USPS.
Sadly, I actually understand the sidewalk...they got it in the budget years ago, and are going to spend that money if they need to or not.
A couple of years ago, we spent lots and lots of money upgrading our store. They didn't do the floor, which was in great need, nor the sidewalk, which was also in great need. But the government contract stated for the store, not the building...so now we go through the mess again, for the building (still no word if they are doing the floor.)
Our Governor is having all departments do a zero based budget for our next budget. I think it's great, they need to go back and justify EVERY dollar, no longer starting where they were and trying to get more. People (agencies) are complaining about the amount of work that would take (oh boo hoo) and our elected officials are complaining (sort of, since the tax payers like it, they just can't come out and say they don't like it) about the time it would take to go over these new budgets. They express the concern that we will be paying more in payroll to do this. The governors response was that we are already paying them, and in the private sector, they have to figure out how to do more with less, and they have to figure out how to get all the tasking done, that it's time the government starts to do the same thing, to keep the state afloat.

Reminds me off the ,military base closing....one was scheduled to close here....but they had a new front gate scheduled for 250,000 dollars. And by golly they built it too, about 3 months before they decommissioned the base!
My niece in OK says their PO is up for closing. Town has no store and gas or anything I guess now. She thinks they should just close it at 10:30 AM after the mail is put out. That does not cut any building costs and most little PO are paid part time anyway. If the person does not keep open they lose out on things.
I do not see swamp coolers at the middle school now. They put one for each room it seems and it ran $500,000.00 to do it. Guess they have redid that. I mailed the school questionaire back and I told them I would not vote for increase. They are going for it it seems. I got to mail in my form to get ballots mailed to me.
