Today I will put the remnants of the garden to bed. Digging the potatoes up at the top garden and tomatoes, such as they are, will go on the table under the skylight. I am going to wait on the potato tube for a bit-let them mature as much as possible. Squash I will cut plants and let the deer have them. Caterpillars are thick this fall-I seem to remember that being a sign of a cold winter. At least according to my grand mother. Of course, her saying about a black Christmas meaning a full graveyard kinda unnerved me when I was eight years or so old!!!
I heard the darker the caterpillars the colder it would be. I have not seen any here. Very few birds anymore. Have not seen any sign of foxes. Seen a skunk and and got raccoons yet here. Got one kind of weed terrble.

Cukes and zuchs in the topsy turvy,more I think about it.... hanging it upstairs out front.... away from the backyard powdery mildew......that might be a plan!
Cukes and zuccs doing great,got zucc flowers coming out,the tomato is alive and has toms and flowers,so far so good,added some slow release fertilizer to em,gave up on drip,kept getting to wet and parts were trashy and expensive so done wasting time and money,I can water em,not all that hot here.
======================= june 12,2012
This is the one from last week planting,typical root bound nursery stock zuccs,but they are growing and should make it....
The squash and cukes,growing very well,covering container,no heat issues so far at all.
Seems to be a winner for toms too,got tons of fruits,in backside is another tom growing....
Great. I replanted the greenbeans as 4 rows did not come up. The other 2 rows do great so far. Plants still alive and one of the hot peppers looks to be dieing. I had some seed packs I used on the 4 rows. Other 2 seed from seed house. Plants just not taking off on growing. But buds coming on some peppers and guess tomatoes are going a little. Nights in the 40's.
Son oldest one has garden at front of the shop like flower beds and he waters with a sprinkler can. Said that bed on the side gets water when the guy waters his lawn next door. He had radish to eat. He likes salads. He is getting greens for salads.
County agent came and took soil tests in my garden. Waiting on the results. He thinks not enough nitrogen or too much salt. I do not think anything will help those plants now. Fill the beds clear full of soil he said. I planted in the soil here and frame hold in the water and stuff. No I did not talk to him. Came while I was gone. DIL. All the horse poo on the beds. Never saw anthing like this. Plants grew tiny bit and quit. DIL talked to him.
