Now I read they are going to have you use direct deposit for the checks. Too many lost and stolen. Exempt if over 90 and too if you live in remote area and don't get to bank. SSI and SS and other gov checks. Mine are that way. I have to go to bank for money. If I got a check would have to go to bank to cash it. Store are now charging to cash youe check. So many place here will not take a check. I have to have money for gas. No checks. May 1 I think it is. They will give you time to set it up. I could only do 3 checks a month and now I can use more . No limit. I do not want to write a bunch. I was not given a choice and asked for check or deposit slip for numbers. Pension too. IRS same and State I did not give to state and got no refund and said they were holding for next year. So next year I gave my bank number and got it. Yeah I could have wrote in a fussed. So basically we have to have a bank account. I now write a check to get money out. They changed me. I have to make a once a month stop at the bank.

I direct deposit to Credit Union, then ATM for cash or get cash back at store when I use my debit card to make purchase.Very seldom use cash much with retailers, just a few like thrift its cash/carry.Gas is debit, all bills pretty much pay online.
Mrs writes checks to pay her JCPenny or Macy card,it does help her establish credit.Cards in her name.
Remember guys,YOUR card doesnt give your Mrs credit unless her name is on as joint acct holder, getting an extra card is no credit benefit for her.
I know the card rant, there can be times you NEED credit so having a record can be important.
We've started using a debit card. I like it, much easier and faster than cash. I balance the checkbook every weekend, so it doesn't ge away from us.
The government went to direct deposit years ago, all service members had to use direct deposit to reinlist, you can't get a government job with a bank account to use direct deposit.
Although, I wasn't thrilled when everything went to electronic, I must admit, I'm beinging to really like the convience (few trips to the bank, less checks to buy, easier balancing, no postage charges, no trips to the post office)
I pay IRS monthly so no problems and get some back. My pension sends it in. IRS has my number as refunds and they have put money it for that similus too. I decided to get it all taken out one place and once pension runs out I should not have any more taxes to pay. One can have it withheld from SS checks if needed.
One reason I am considering NOT bothering with social security-I detest banks and anything associated with them. I have been quietly working on my electrical generation setup and if this works I can cut a major cord. Our government has shown me over the past couple of decades that they can't be trusted with anything, so I am of a mind to refuse to participate. I think I will start messing with them and go after the money they stole from me for social security. Should be fun.
