A while back I was in grocery getting a few things. Saw a fella literally stacking those Hungry Man dinner things in his cart. On sale-he must have had thirty of them in there. I wonder if the bulk of America will not be reduced to eating this way before long?
I hope I dont have to eat only that way.The chicken isnt too bad and while the meat servings taste pretty good thats really some ugly stuff,I wonder "Just what is THAT?"
The one that gets me are the carts of corn syrup half gallon fruit flavored drinks,those pre packed meat/cheese things,and tons of cookies,snacks stuff.I wonder if thats what they eat all the time?? My Step son has a cupboard in the garage man cave thats nothing but that stuff and the kids come out to get bags of that stuff and soda pops,oh well,their lives but wow,just costs alone for that really unhealthy stuff,not for me.
Give me ice water with lemon slices,now thats a good drink for me.This is my flying J 52 oz cup,I drink 1 or 2 a day

Yup,I had a friend who ate the big lunch at the senior center every day too.It was super cheap and he got a cooked meal,but we laughed a little too,guy was quite financially well off but got a subsidized meal.Then again,he paid a lot of taxes in his time for sure!
Politics aside though,he got a nutritious meal a day,thats a good thing!

Im making chuck steaks,cut up another roast,got slices spiced with tenderizer on me in fridge.
Then gathered up my frozen leftover veggies,had onion,olive,maters,been peas carrots.A couple cups both of seaweed (Miso) broth and chicken broth.Oh,and some refried beans burrito stuffing.Few hunks of chuck steak pieces.
It came out great,guess its the Miso broth that gave it a slight lemony tang,tomato taste and even the chili powder,but I couldnt have devised a tastier soup,these leftovers rock!
I can open a can of veggies and make instant mashed taters pretty fast if I have some meat cooked. I cook a piece of something and goes days for me. Right now I have a piece of pork on boiling. It will go 3 or 4 days. Here lately I put my meat on the bun for supper. I am not a big meat eater.
I think the senior meals are like $3 or so now. He was intitled to eat there. If he liked it that was good. IT is sort of social too I think. I know here if you volunteer to serve in the kitchen put the meals out you get a free meal. They don't cook it as sent over from nursing home kitchen. Just put on plates and clean up after wards. Dishwasher. Least I was told that. The meals were served at the dinning room at the senior apt building. Their rec building had kitchen and dining room and library/meeting room. At one time the surplus food was there too. Started with all seniot then they cut to low income. County paid the shipped on free government food.
I kind of have to eat the same and figure the Vit K. My multi takes one third of my daily Vit K allowance. So with pills and bread and such I can have 30 to 35 mcgs a day. I am learning.
So tonight is chicken on a bun, green peas and bread pudding and little sweet tater. Milk. I am up to 12 and now need to just matenance and keep it there it there in morning as will wt more after breakfast when doc wts me. I wt mornings. I think fat cheese put on the couple pounds. He seems to want me like 115 with shoes and all. With it so hot drink more liquids. Could be part of it.
My pie crust with oil this time came out but I doubt could lift a pie size piece. It was a bit sticky and I chilled it and should not have. It set up. I let set then rolled it and cut some circles I can use with pudding. Need more practise on it and any way can make pot pies with it as I do not use a bottom crust. These foil pans from pot pies are not large and the fat the crust I did not need that that much. More filling that way. Mixed canned veggies and left over turkey, chicken . beef, whatever. I do not want to use lard for pie crust and I do have this baking book that does not use shortening. He uses butter in the pie crust and butter is high. I got this pie crust oil recipe off internet.
Supper tonight is Italian sausage on bun and 1/2 cup green beans. I like bratswurst sausage better. This is mild Italian but still a bit hot. It will be better in the soup and paella I think. It is good. I did dishes a pile of them and sorted clippings again.
I had some of the best soup tonight...I was at a buyers club meeting, at the little store we use for dispersing the food, the owner does a lunch business, and she had soup and sandwiches available for dinner tonight, boy was it good. I asked her if she would have this available for every buyer club function, because we usually go out to eat after, because of the time, the we would just have dinner there. She said she would!
Spuds, like you said have the turkey cooked and get out of freezer what is needed. It is really handy and darn good thing to have some stuff you can heat and eat. I am all for it.
I am still working out things I cn eat okay and have more variety and still be on this dang diet. It cost to cook and cook more at one time same price as a little. I know it cost to freeze but buying big packages of meat is cheaper. Divide up for meals so can get out just what you want. Still I think it is cheaper eating that way. I got to store every week becau
se of milk. But I can drink the powdered if don't get there and I would still eat okay. I am keep this nice and cheesy cheese on hand. I like okay and few cans of pork and beans and can make a meal if need to.
I need to cook the squash and put in to meal size for me and freeze some. One is starting to go bad as bruised on the end.
I had cooked a good pound of deer steak and ate a little last night night before. Had me up both nights to pee couple times.. Old Bay seasoning I put on it not thinking it was celery. Directic bad to me. I took over to son's for there supper tonight. No way could I eat more of it. I sure did not want to toss it out. Tasted fine to me. No use put in freezer I coud see.
So supper is greenbeans less than half cup as cut small and some zucchini and piece of cheese. And flat bread. Took them over flat bread too.
