Got some solar panel work done.Im wired from battery (had to remove battery and tray)...then broke battery cable end clamp and put on one of those crummy terminal ends, thru firewall,up passenger side of windshield and to top of windshield.Just need to run horizontal about 2.5 feet to left and hot glue that down and wire it to the charge controller. There is a sill between roof and windshield where this action is taking place.
Have to mount controller and just screw on 4 wires,2 from panel,2 from battery.Paid a whopping 8 dollars from china, got the 10 amp.. LOL,LOVE the Chinglish below on first pic
VW comes to mind but I bet most manufacturers did or still do this- The cars were shipped with a solar panel on the hood or roof to keep the electrics ticking along and then removed at the dealership. I got a handful of the panels off a frind at a VW place but never got around to messing with them. I wonder if they still do that?

This is 6 AM. 12.4 volts and 3 of 5 bars on battery charge level. This is almost a 1000 amp/hr AGM battery. Its been run dead 3 times.
It wont take the 6 amps the mains charger wants to give it,only the 2 amp setting. So I'll let the charger stay on until I see the volts have picked up,then just leave the solar charger to charge it at 0.8 amps/hour.
I have since replaced this battery,it was dead. Now its like 12.6 at rest and 13.5 in partial sun and 14.2 in full sun.

That jeep solar charger is nice.I can charge phones, walkie talkies, lights at 12 volt via cigarette lighter plug or the 5.3 volt usb plugs on the controller. If we ever get stranded could be a literal life saver. This is just the coolest small power station ever!
