After looking and considering all its going to be a Dodge 3/4 to 1 ton truck with the Cummins diesel and manual trans.Maybe an extended cab but not a crew cab, those trucks are too hard to handle, too long.
Used as a new one is far too much cash.
Thought is 4 wheel drive for snow here and off grid dirt road for homestead.Truck can carry a camper and I can stay at the campground close to work both here or when we move,so being an hour or a couple hours from work will be doable.
Now just need to find one, pretty much have the cash now to buy.
Hard to find a good one though, but Im learning the ropes on what is and isnt a good deal, and when to jump fast as the good ones do go fast, and they do sell for a premium price....and there's a reason for that Im learning
I know why folks buy new, makes it a billion times easier thats for sure.
This is what hopefully we will be looking at Tuesday. It needs the front suspension rebuilt, that will run about 2-3000 dollars so I figured that into the selling price. It doesnt bother me as ALL trucks of this vintage need the front end redone and upgraded from the crummy Dodge parts.
The other known weak point is the auto trans which he had rebuilt and upgraded,so thats a go on that.
200,000 miles on the Cummins diesel is nothing,they do 3-600,000 miles,wow! -------------------------------

Alloy wheels and BFG tires. Interior is in good condition. No tears in the seats. One piece molded floor mat. Aftermarket CD/Tape. Full power inside. Keyless entry. Rueunel Rear bumper. I started updating the truck as a project after purchasing a new Ram a year ago. Just had our first child and need to let the truck go. Meticulous oil changes on the truck since purchasing it with 70K. Currenty has 200K Still runs real strong. 410 gears. 4x4 works great. New shocks. The front sway bars need new bushings. KBB Value $6800-7700. Stahl utility shell for sale independant of the truck but will sell it with the truck for no additional cost.

K,off to see truck, leaving at 12 noon. Its a 2 hour drive to Ventura area,a straight shot out freeway and the Diamond lane is still free (for NOW,Bums passed a law to make em toll lanes!!!) so just get into the fast lane for 2 or more people, set cruise at 75-80 mph, whatever freeway is running at and point it to Ventura,LOL!
Sure hope 4 wheel drive hooks up,engine starts and doesnt smoke, and the tranny should be good. The front end oesnt scare me a bit, throw 2-3 grand at that and the place in Prescott Arizona makes a Dodge front end that Dodge should have made.
Think good thoughts, these trucks for a good price are rare as hens teeth out here,Im hoping its the front end issues that have scared off people on this one,its just the way it is on these trucks at 200,000 miles.
Also these trucks have weak brakes, its the rears dont do any stopping, all falls on the front. The trick is an easy fix, just change the rear back brake cylinders with a larger one, they bolt right in at 9 dollars per side, bleed brakes, good to go!
I'm glad you are pleased and got home safe and sound.
I don't understand "the passenger folded in" I'm thinking you mean the seat?
The mirror,I left out mirror,LOL???
Yes,I couldnt see ANYTHING on my right for 125 miles of freeway,I had to blast past traffic and hope for best when I moved to right.Made what should have been very easy VERY stressful, guess my second fix it project??? st was a flasher I got at autozone so signals worked, thats kinda nice too,LOL!!!!

OK,I got the mirror locked in place, now to find out how to do it correctly and not clamp an allen wrench to the arm,LOL! But at least its secure now.Put on new wipers and now Im watching the wiper fluid leak on ground,a whole gallon, guess I better find the hose leak, bye!
Working out better than I hoped.I was figuring this would just be winter and hauling stuff vehicle, but its so easy to drive, and it just feels good and solid when driven I think we will actually be driving it a lot, pretty doggone cool,so far this is working out BETTER than I had planned!

Yes,if you have a car thats registered and insured,so I show them the Jettas' papers, they register truck. Then you are covered for 10 days on that policy, you have 10 days to get insurance on new vehicle, then DMV issue's final paperwork. When you insure they automatically send verification to DMV.

The truck has held up well,in 18 months have put 27,000 miles on it,wow!!!!
I would buy another if I had room.
Weve decided to let the Jetta go as a tranny is 5G and car worth 7G at most.
Now trying to get a Jeep.
Looks like the Commando is best fit for us.It has to be a 1975 or older so no smog fights.Like it as its longer than the Wrangler so better ride, has all the great Jeep running gear,a top that comes off if you want yet metal.....lotsa room for dogs and what have you, plus will fit Jetta spot on driveway.
Now to find one,its been a months search and no luck, that darn Craigslist,if people would return emails I might get one.
I like the auto trans,as it uses a GM TH400,that tranny can handle 450 lbs torque, thats 2-3 times what any Jeep engine puts out and rebuild costs are cheap,I can change that myself,as I can the straight 6 cylinder motor and a rebuilt for that is only 1100.00 dollars,so repair costs very good and within my skill, strength ability. VERY cool on that!
Here is what they look like, and a couple youtubes if you care to see.
------------------------------- 1972 Jeep Commando with straight 6, and automatic transmission. Body is straight, interior is clean and complete. Has removable top, and interior has 2 bench seats. Runs wells. Asking 2000.00 OBO. Need to sell ASAP.

This is the one we look at Monday 730 PM in Hollywood.Guy is a holistic DVM who does house calls, interesting. ------------------------------------------- Vintage 1967 Jeepster Commando. Red with white top. Original condition, original motor, many replaced parts and works great (approx. 85k miles). Serious inquiries only - $6,900
He bought it 5 years ago in Colorado, drove it out 40,in flagstaff tranny line leaked, they put in new lines, that was the last reliability issue he's had with.Says yup, will do 80 on freeway though don't want too, occasional freeway this vehicle will handle that.In fact that is the perfect vehicle road mix for it.
It has 2 tiny rust spots on tailgate, they are usually rusted out,not original seats though, new paint 5 years ago and a couple spots you can tell.Has a bondo spot too,and a little rust below tailgate,2 tiny spots. That's unusual, that's the rust killer spot.
He is not in a hurry to sell, says when you sell on craigslist you get spammed unmercifully and that's why it takes sellers time to get back, gotta go thru all the spam and try to decide what is legit, when I sent my second last night he was able to tell I might be real...... and not...'I look you nizeie behikel, you shippy to Etiopia?'
Auto, and bullet proof TH400 he says, really nice tranny for the vehicle he says, waaaay overbuilt for what the car does.Has the V6 dauntless,he says he thinks I will be surprised at what a fine engine,he drives a subie wrx and says this thing is spirited like his subie, very torquey.Said I like the str6 because its easier to replace...he says,no problem, you WONT BE replacing this engine, runs like a top!
So guy bought a good one,has the money to buy and keep up....see him tomorrow at 730 PM in hollywood.Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Seems they have to ORDER 6000 in order for tomorrow (though my branch is closed Wednesdays) to get it,but they do have a branch I can get it from this evening. I dont think I like that, them not having my money. In fact im sure I dont like that.
I suggested maybe THEY should deliver it my branch, not have me chase it down....they 'can order it' she says.... Im thinking,......I dont like that at all.
Edit-AMAZING!!!! The Bank just called, money will be in my branch when bank opens at 12,now that I really didnt expect.Guess keeping my cool and being polite to the call center Lady paid off.
Plan is leave here early wednesday to go get car and do title transfer and such.
