Spuds- -is our little girl dog. Weighs around 25 pounds,a fluffy terrier mix.Cant remember was it 91 or 93 Spuds came to us. She was the size of a potato, you could hold her in your hand...hence the name Spuds.
Spuds is dying. She hasnt eaten in over a week, couldnt stand about 3 days ago and stopped drinking.Yesterday she did drink a little water from a mayonnaise jar lid.
I was going to take her to vet to be put down, but they are closed on weekends. In that time she is quietly fading away, and is peaceful and comfortable. Every so often she lets out a weak bark, and this dog is a fine barker, and I go over to her bed and talk to her and give her a gentle body massage. She likes that.
So Im here at the Doggy Hospice. And its OK.She is a good girl and is getting a send off that she deserves,at home and peaceful.
I think it will be soon.Hey,its the circle of life, and she is getting a dignified death if I have any thing to say about it.
Oh spuds...I am all too familiar with that pain. My heart aches for what you are going through. I am sure you provided a wonderful life for Spuds filled with lots of love!!! You and Mrs. Spuds will be on my heart and in my prayers!

died while I was sleeping. Mrs buried her and then left the building.
R.I.P. Oh Mighty Girl. You are/were a most excellent animal and brought us much joy over the years.
Mrs just called me....from the Dog Pound.
We are adopting a female German Shepard.1 year old.Very skinny. She has been at the pound since February.Completely totally untrained.Very sweet, loves the kids that are visiting there. She was found roaming the streets in the desert...Victorville.Mrs says she is a purebred.Very beautiful.I hope she is the German line which is heavier than the American line which is a little sleeker. But it doesnt matter.
I like the idea she is saving a dog.I like the idea is saving a dog.
Ive had 50/50 results from the pound.Had one i had to return, she was just a total freak out.Had another, female rottie doberman mix who was super.
Mrs says its up to the dog if she will adopt Mrs or not.So if she chooses us we have a new guard dog.In todays situation a GSD guard dog may in fact be a good choice.

Then she calls me for 'permission' to get the dog. Oh yeah, call the enabler for advice on that!
OBTW,probably a hundred bucks to adopt here. They have to have a chip,be spayed or neutered, and get all their shots. They give you a voucher to take to vet for the spay.License is like 15-20 a year,if not spayed its like 70 a year.I believe LA County you have to spay period unless you are a licensed kennel.might even be the state law now,I forget if they passed that or not. ..........

Here is what the new Girl looks like (net picture, not her)
She jumps on you, pulls on the leash and understands NO commands.Very friendly. 1.5 years old they guess.Has the straight up ears.
70 dollars,15 more for a chip. She is being spayed,we get her tomorrow afternoon. Plus has a certificate good for a Vet check up in next three days.I think I will get the chip.
Mrs says she is train by praise vrs. a clunk on the head type.My GSD was the clunk on the head to get his attention.
My dobie was a praise and she would do anything for you.Definitely don t even consider a choke chain, far too refined a lady for such crude treatment (Red-"burrito please, with green sauce"). They knew me at Del Taco at the drive through and the girl there always cut my burrito in 2 to share with Red.Girl was a redhead too, they bonded,LOL!.
So I have my work cut out for me getting her trained.BUT,Im also a good dog trainer and we wont have any dominance issues,Ive never had a dog think twice that they ruled the roost.
Oh and two little boys went by and she immediately wanted to play with them,so she is good with children.
Mrs says she is the American line, very intense gaze at you,and that I will love her.
So Spuds saved a life.Oh,and they get 500 dogs a month!
Thank you spuds for the update on your darlings Spuds. I have been thinking about you guys all day! God Bless you and Mrs. Spuds for taking into your home the new "pup". That is a totally selfless act! Mercy...why don't people get their animals "fixed" I wish I had the money and space to take in every unwanted animal! THEY ARE NOT DISPOSABLE!!!
Oh, the "chip" thing...meeehhhh! I vehemently detest the whole concept! I only like chips that I can eat and OUR Chips (even though we butt heads on some things)!
MightySpuds-I just read where your dog Spuds was ailing and then passed away. I am really sorry for you & the Mrs. loss. Animals are amazing and enrich our lives that many times we just can't understand. It seems like they have an uncanny ability to sense our moods and feelings. So sorry for this loss. Thankfully she got to go peacefully.
But now it looks like you and the Mrs. are getting a wonderful new dog. That is one lucky German Shepherd. Good Luck with the new dog and training. Take care!
God Bless you and Mrs. Spuds for taking into your home the new "pup". That is a totally selfless act!
Mrs says she got into the car after burying Spuds and just went for a drive. She had no intention of going to Pound and just sort of wound up there.
She looked around but wanted a big dog, either GSD or a Dane.Wants that protection so she can take walks and feel secure. Didnt see any.
There was a Shih Tzu there, all matted up.Now thats sad, those Dogs are Royalty and know it.Its little heart must have been broken in two.
The lady there asked her what she was looking for, they have a 'wish list' and will call if it comes in.She said GSD or Dane.Lady says we have a GSD in the back, and brought her out. Mrs tried to walk her and basically got dragged around by an overgrown mutt who definitely didnt grasp concept of a leash.LOL,crazy goofball!(What we have here is failure to communicate. LOL!)
But she was able to get her to sit while she talked to lady at counter. And she got all excited when the boys came by,likes kids just fine! That was a very good sign, and that she had enough sense to behave herself while Mrs talked to them.
So they do the spay there now.We get her after three tomorrow,I will do a pic if she is up to it.
Ive decided to chip her.I have issues with it too but she isnt either used to us,or able to follow commands yet,or calmed down enough to know she doesnt want to run off,so for her protection Im going to do it.If I raised her as a pup I wouldnt worry, never had either a pup Ive raised or dog Ive owned want to ever run off helter skelter.
They know a good deal when they see it.Schon did get confused in snow and went out open gate and got himself lost, that was scary!
(did have a roamer though that thought the open desert was ALL his yard, darn dog.I lost him too when he broke his chain and got trapped, the others came home that night,he never did.Think he got wrapped around a bush.My neighbor even took his airplane and scoured the desert for him.)
No,I did pretty good because I had days to adjust to it.But Ive sure felt sad when I think about it.Get misty eyed though.Sadness is the emotion, just empty without her under foot all the time.I already miss her coming up every night for a neck massage before she went to bed. She had me trained well on her needs,LOL.
Im sure Mrs cried,Spuds was her girl and she REALLY loved that dog.
We will have to see what her personality is before we get to the new dog name game.I think a vote might be fun on names suggested,we'll see.Just might be able to do that! We'll start a thread on it when I can give you some traits news.
But Mrs gets final choice OK? I suspect this is going to be her dog,we will see on that too. That will be the dogs choice.
Spuds was definitely hers,BooBoo was definitely mine,Schon we inherited and he treats us pretty equal.Buster the Great Dane definitely preferred Mrs because she loved walking with him.
LOL on Mrs gets front seat. The story on that was BooBoo wasnt about to let Mrs sit up front so we always had an 'issue' with that!Mrs would win out (eventually!) but Boo ALWAYS got into that front seat before her,she liked the heated leather on the new car a LOT!
Oh.another seat story.Mrs is driving along with Spuds, normal day,and Spuds is just panting and slobbering buckets. After a LONG time Mrs realizes the seat was on high and Spuds was being toasted! Now Boo would just get off the seat in that instance if she didnt turn the thing off by herself.Spuds, not the brightest bulb Im afraid, was one step away from needing a coating of BBQ sauce.
Also the swimming,Boo was lab mix and swam like Micheal Phelps.Cruise through the water without a ripple, amazing since she was shaped like a well fed stove pipe. Spuds was a terrier and swam like a boat anchor, not pretty, more like abject terror!!
Oh spuds, don't really know what to say....sorry and congratulations?
Except for the chickens (and some of those) are other peoples rejects. Our shepard (gone a couple of years now) was a pound dog, one of the best dogs we ever had. When we lived in CT we had her on a run, the squirrels knew were the run ended and would stop just where Ginger couldn't reach them. One day, while I was hanging out laundry, I let Ginger loose. Talk about surprised squirrels, they stopped to look back at Ginger boy did they take off when they relized that Ginger didn't stop

I am so sorry to hear about your dog. It is so incredibly sad when a pet dies. I am so glad that you are got another dog! She will help fill the void.... and I am sure she will be very happy to have a forever family!
I love our Shepard's! They are second generation from Germany. They were Terry's dogs, and he had four of them, all brothers. He left two of them to his daughter, and it broke my heart when she took them away. She was happy to have them, but her husband doesn't like them. Bubba and Mega were my favorites and they were at my side constantly. No matter where I was they were there. They followed me around the house and slept right beside my bed. Bubba especially, he was always at my side. Being unsteady on my feet he would always be there to steady me. I tried to talk Lizzy into letting them stay with me, but she wouldn't. Now I hear they have gotten skinny and they have been running off, but she won't bring them back. I get so upset worrying about them. Such unhappiness....
