I thought the weather was wonderful this week end in the 50's, Rich and I took off for our cottage on Fri., he got a little yard work done. I canned another 7 pints of mushrooms, and 6 quarts of stew beef that I had in the freezer. One jar didn't seal so that solved the question of what to have for dinner that day. Hot beef sanwiches, mashed taters, and home canned green beans, with our canned peaches for desert, life is good. Today (Monday) its suppose to hit 65 and be in the 60's most of the week. Lots of rain predicted for the week also, but thats ok to. Hope to get the rhubard topped dressed with some compost and some onion sets in the ground, may need to place the cold frame over them. I've been doing a little research on morel mushrooms on line, Rich and I want to go looking for them this year. We have to laugh as we are getting older and the eye sight isn't what it use to be, we laugh we probably won't find a thing, but a walk thought the woods will be just fine with us also. Need to get a order off for some more asparagus plants we started with 10 and hope to end up with 50 plants, that should give us plenty. Also need to look into getting some more fruit trees, if we could just keep the deer and rabbits from feasting on them.
Thanks annieoakley. Do you have any hints to share for finding the morels? We recently watched a program about morels, true hunters for them, they went all over in search of them, used long walking sticks to push back the follage, no knee bending or squatting if not necessary. Also used mesh bags for any they found, that was to let the spores fall out to keep the mushrooms growing in the area. Not expecting to find many but it will be fun spending the time looking.

Mushrooms!! We pick morel mushrooms when we are turkey hunting if we are lucky enough to find them. Brought home a bunch last year. Good luck mushroom hunting!!
nnie, I moved to Minnesota from Missouri in 1996, since then, I have found one dried up morel, and there is hardly no areas to hunt them here, due to all the farming, and the lack of trees. But, My Daughter, makes sure she call me every single spring, to tell me they found POUNDS ...in the places I showed her, when they were youngsters...
I look every year, but here in MN. the grass and weeds, are knee high by the time the weathers right for morels.
